01 - Before Renovation
Preda Family Pictures from when we bought the house before the DIY renovations. The main issues we had with the house were the following:
1. Hardwood floor was separating, catching toenails when barefoot--ouch!
2. Uneven levels of up and down from couch to kitchen - down, up, down again
3. Wall/Doorways congested the tiled hall, making it a largely useless space
4. Carpeting needed to go
5. Only 1 bathroom - needed to maximize space and usefulness
6. No living room lighting
7. Bedroom 3 was not insulated well - too hot in the summer, too cold in the New York winter
1. Porch - This is the least renovated space. We patched and repainted walls, connected simple lighting to a switch in the living room, resealed window caulking, and replaced blinds.
2. You will see my son and his cousins visiting from Korea.
3. See the separations in the couch area and hallway area. A .75" Inch (plywood thickness), then a 1" inch step up between the old hardwood floor and tiled area - I later found out during the renovation projects that they just cement boarded & tiled over the old floor in the Hallway area - why? Then after the hallway section, there was an even-lower 2.75" step down to the kitchen, which was an addition to the original 1922 house.
4. The 3 bedrooms were also extension of the original house.
5. I also built that playground set from Costco, on sale at the time for $350.00 in 2014
